I have been playing online for some time now and my biggest problem is when i get up i always run into bad card runs and my stack seems to dwindle down and i then begin steaming whats the easiest way to try and get yourself out of that funk? Also what are some easy tells online? Such as the amount of time the player takes to call or raise hands
If you plan on sustaining a bankroll and making money. It's not so ridiculous.
I basically play strictly tournaments. If I have $1000 in my account, the most I will play a single tournament for is 40-50 dollars. My standard would be a $10, $20. You have to leave yourself room for mistakes and bad runs. If you don't, you can go broke quickly, and never give yourself a chance for that luck to even back out.
With 200 bucks you can play anything up to $1/2 IMO. I used to put $100 bucks in and try to find a hand to double up to $200 then play 2 tables at once, and keep doing that. If you are willing to lose the cash, play 1/2. If you are playing to have fun, you should probably hang out at .25/.50. Don't be fooled by the blind size. You can still get into monster pots (respectively) at these levels.
I'm guilty of one big on-line tell, but it actually works in my favor. Here's mine...
Everytime I flop the nuts, or DAMN close to the nuts (ie hit my set), and a player makes a HUGE bet,.... I pause for several seconds.
Now normally I'm one of the fastest players at the table, so the pause is very noticeable. Obviously my intention is to make them think I've got a marginal hand and their huge bet made me stop and think.
After a good 10 seconds... I call. (assuming I don't need to push them out of the hand... ie flush draw). The slow call works like a charm! On the turn the player almost always makes an even bigger bet convinced I'm on a marginal hand. The trap is sprung!!!
I've induced countless monster turn bets slowww calling, that NEVER would have happened had I insta-called (or even raised) their big flop bet.
